A finding chart for V1223 Sgr

SkyView image of V1223 Sgr (see important notes).

Position
  • Equatorial: 18h55m02.31s, -31d09m50.0s (Gaia)
  • Galactic: l=4.96, b=-14.36
Finding Chart:
Steiner et al. (1981)
Brigntness:
Optical G=13.0 (Gaia); X-rays: 1.3x10-10 ergs cm-2s-1 (BAT 157m; 14-195 keV), 9.0x10-11 ergs cm-2s-1 (4XMM-DR11)
IP Credential:
***** (Ironclad) This is one of the classic IPs, whose credential is beyond doubt.
Periods:
  • Orbital: 0.1402440 d = 3.365856 hr = 12117.08 s
    T(max) = HJD 2444749.986(3) + 0.1402440(4) E
    (Jablonski & Steiner 1988)
  • Spin: 0.00863 d = 12.43 min = 745.6 s, seen in X-rays and (occasionally) in the optical.
    Tmax = HJD 2445619.1772(2) + 0.00863(5) E
    (Osborne et al. 1985) is now pitifully out of date --- is there a better one somewhere?
    See the canonical spin profiles
  • Others: The 794.379 s sideband is more prominent than the spin period in the optical.
    Tmax = HJD 2444508.47235(4) + 0.009194204(2) E + 1.28(7)x10-13 E2
    (Jablonski & Steiner 1988)
Inclination:
16-40 (Watts et al. 1985).
Distance:
561.1 (552.8-568.7) pc (Gaia EDR3; parallax: 1.745+/-0.023 mas)
