Excerpts from Weekly Report
Fri
| Mar. 29, 2002
The third week of HST Servicing Mission Observatory Verification
(SMOV) activities were nominal.
Final alignment and focusing of the Advanced Camera for Surveys
(ACS) is almost complete, and this will enable early release
observations to be conducted next week as planned.
Cooling of the Near Infrared Camera/Multi-Object Spectrometer
(NICMOS) continued with the NICMOS Cooling System (NCS).
The NICMOS Main Electronics Box (MEB) was powered down in
order to improve the rate of cooling, which has continued
to slow as the NICMOS and NCS temperatures continue to fall.
Planned science observations were conducted using the Wide
Field/Planetary Camera 2, Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph
(CCD), and Fine Guidance Sensor 1. All observatory subsystem
performance was nominal during this period.
At KSC, the three carriers and Flight Support System (FSS)
were removed from the canister at the Vertical Processing
facility. The carriers, FSS, Crew Aids and Tools, and
GSE are being prepared for shipment back to Goddard.
Reaction Wheel Assembly SN1008 (the RWA removed during the
mission) and the two Rate Sensor Units that were flown were
received back at Goddard.
First astronomy pictures from ACS are tentatively scheduled
for release in May.
