Excerpts from Weekly Report

ACS before the missionFri | Apr. 19, 2002
The Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) commissioning activity continued on schedule without any anomalies. Early Release Observations of astronomical targets taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys still set for the first week in May.

The Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS) Cooling System (NCS) achieved the desired operational temperature and has been stable for several days.  The NICMOS instrument was put into operate mode on April 19 in preparation for the filter wheel test and the detector bias frame test.  These tests will be completed early next week.

The Power Control Unit (PCU) that was removed from HST during SM3B, was returned to GSFC for analysis. It was concluded that a problem with battery load sharing on the removed PCU was fixed on the PCU that was installed in HST on SM3B.

Fri | Apr. 12, 2002
The HST Servicing Mission 3B (SM3B) observatory verification activities continued to be nominal during the past week. All HST subsystem performance continued to be nominal during the week.

The Near Infrared Camera/Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS) Cooling System achieved a temperature of 70 degrees Kelvin inside the NICMOS cryostat, which has enabled the NCS control law to take active control and stabilize the cryostat internal temperature.

The Rigid Array Carrier, Second Axial Carrier, and Flight Support System were loaded into their shipping containers at KSC and began the trip back to Goddard on April 10.

The Super Lightweight Interchangeable Carrier (SLIC) Wide-field Scientific Instrument Protective Enclosure (WSIPE) CDR was successfully completed April 11.

Early Release Observations of astronomical targets taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys still set for the first week in May.
