1RXS J052430.2+424449 = RX J0524+42 = PalomaThis object is now listed under the name Paloma. Ideally, I would like to see an oficial variable star designation for this object and use it. However, this object is widely referred to as Paloma, even though it is an unofficial nickname, hence the change from the ROSAT designation to this nickname. In fact, the nickname was originally "CV in Paloma" from a speculation that this object might be a kicked-out pulsar associated with the supernova remanant whose ROSAT image had a bird-like shape, as explained in the discovery paper (Schwarz et al. 2007). To paraphrase Indiana Jones' father, "we nicknamed the supernova remnant Paloma."
