Contest: Halloween Costume Contest

NASA Blueshift is having a costume contest this year! That’s right – we were so inspired The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon dressing up as the Doppler Effect that we want to see your best geeky science costume!

Send us a photo of your space, astronomy, physics, or science-based costume! We’ll choose our three favorites and award some prize packs of NASA goodies to the winners!

Submit your photo to: blueshift @ bigbang . gsfc . nasa . gov (just remove the spaces)

So that we know that you actually took the photo yourself, please include a handwritten sign in your picture that says something like, “Happy Halloween, NASA Blueshift!” (You don’t have to cover up your costume though!) We just want to make sure that you’re not in competition with someone else who stole a photo from the internet and entered it as their own original creation.

Entries are due by November 6, 2011, at 11:59PM EST. (We know some Halloween parties can happen the Saturday after Halloween, so we wanted to give you extra time.

We will announce our winners during November 2011.

We do have some really simple rules:

  1. Don’t use copyrighted material.
  2. Don’t use any offensive imagery.
  3. We reserve the right to reject submissions that violate these two rules.
  4. You retain copyright to your own design – but your entry gives us permission to repost your work on NASA sites and associated external social media.

Any questions? Leave a comment or drop us a line through our feedback form (at the top of every page)!

And after the break, we’ve got the obligatory legalese and some photos of geeky costumes.
