Welcome to a special Halloween episode of Blueshift! It’s a time of transition here at Goddard Space Flight Center – a new Exploration Sciences Building has just been completed and the Blueshift team is on the move. For the past 50 years, Goddard’s Building 2 has been the home of cutting-edge research and development for many of NASA’s space science missions.
In the midst of our packing, we wanted to share some stories from this old building and give you an inside look at one of NASA’s longest-operating space science facilities.
Building 2 History
You can learn more about the history of Goddard Space Flight Center and Building 2 at these links:
- NASA Goddard in 1976 – this vintage film showcases Goddard Space Flight Center on the 50th anniversary of Robert Goddard’s first successful liquid-fueled rocket flight.
- Dreams, Hopes, Realities: NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, The First Forty Years – full online content from a book published on the 40th anniversary of the Center’s opening, featuring many early photographs and missions.
- Goddard’s 50th Anniversary – a special website created earlier this year on the occasion of the Center’s 50th anniversary, featuring a variety of stories and multimedia.
Note: Though Building 2 does have some dark corners and creepy noises, Sara and Maggie did not actually disappear during filming. They will return next month with another episode of Blueshift.
