That’s right, it’s back! A little late, but better than never! We weren’t able to hold this last year due to the timing of the shutdown, but we’ve gotten the go ahead to have our costume contest this year. I know we didn’t give you all much time to plan, but surely NASA and space fans such as yourselves might already have decided to do a space themed costume?

So here’s the scoop.

Send us a photo of your NASA, space, astronomy, physics, or science-based costume! We’ll choose our three favorites and award a NASA prize pack to the winners!

Submit your photo to: blueshift @ bigbang . gsfc . nasa . gov (just remove the spaces)

So that we know that you actually took the photo yourself, please include a handwritten sign in your picture that says something like, “Happy Halloween, NASA Blueshift!” (You don’t have to cover up your costume though!) We just want to make sure that you’re not in competition with someone else who stole a photo from the internet and entered it as their own original creation.

Entries are due by Tuesday, November 10, 2014, at 11:59PM EST. (We know some Halloween parties can happen after Halloween, so we wanted to give you extra time.

We will announce our winners during November 2014.

We do have some really simple rules:

  1. You must be 18 or over.
  2. Don’t use copyrighted material.
  3. Don’t use any offensive imagery.
  4. We reserve the right to reject submissions that violate these rules.
  5. You retain copyright to your own design – but your entry gives us permission to repost your work on NASA sites and associated external social media.

Any questions? Leave a comment or drop us a line through our feedback form (at the top of every page)!

Here are past winners for inspiration: 2012 and 2011.
