The Astro 2010 Decadal Review has drawn enthusiastic participation from IXO supporters. We list here the 15 white papers most directly relevant to IXO science. Note that there are many more white papers submitted on high-energy astrophysics topics related to the IXO mission. These white papers represent contributions from hundreds of scientists from the United States, Europe, and Japan.
We will have our next big science team meeting July 3, 2009 in Otaru, Japan, hosted by our JAXA colleagues. This meeting follows the Suzaku conference in Otaru, Japan (June 29–July 2).
More than 200 astronomers convened in Boston, MA on January 28—29, 2009 at the IXO Team Meeting to discuss the IXO science and technology developments. Presentations by the Science Definition Team (SDT), the Instrument Working Group (IWG), the Telescope Working Group (IWG), and the ESA, JAXA, and NASA projects are posted to the web site.
More than 40 posters, covering science and technology for the IXO mission, were presented at the January 2009 AAS meeting in Long Beach, CA. These posters have now been posted to the web site.
There will be a meeting of the International X-ray Observatory (IXO) science Team January 28-29, 2009 in Cambridge, MA at the Royal Sonesta Hotel on the Charles River. Participation by all members of the IXO science team is encouraged, as well as members of the scientific community interested in IXO. Members of the previous Con-X and XEUS teams are particularly encouraged to attend. This IXO science team meeting will focus on preparing for the upcoming U.S. Decadal Survey.
Please use link below to register on-line. Note that registration closes Jan 14.
IXO will be featured in a special session at the January Meeting of the American Astrophysical Society January 4-8, 2009 in Long Beach, CA. The special sessions held on Tuesday, January 6 will include 40 posters (Sessions #454 and 457, 9:20 AM - 6:30 PM) and talks Tuesday afternoon (Session #217 from 2:00 - 3:30 PM)
The talks from the Exploring the Hot Universe with IXO meeting held at the Max-Planck Institute in Garching are available. Please use the link below to access the presentation web page.
The talks from the first International X-ray Observatory FST meeting are available from the project website. Please use the link below to access the presentation web page.
Due to a busy working schedule, we will be bringing in lunch each day of the FST meeting August 20-22. In order to cover the cost of the lunch and breaks we will be collecting an on-site registration fee of $75 for the meeting, or a per-day fee of $25.
Also, the current agenda is available for download (use link below). The agenda may still be updated, so please check the website for the latest version.
At a bilateral ESA-NASA meeting July 15-16, 2008, David Southwood, the ESA Director for the Science and Robotic Exploration Program, and Ed Weiler, the NASA Associate Administrator of the Science Mission Directorate, endorsed a plan to establish an International X-ray Observatory (IXO) study.
The IXO study will be the input to the US decadal process and to the ESA selection for the Cosmic Vision Plan and supersedes the ongoing XEUS and Constellation-X activities. Use the link below to read the announcement from Hideyo Kunieda (JAXA), Arvind Parmar (ESA), and Nicholas White (NASA) to the Con-X and XEUS teams for more information.
