A finding chart for V842 Cen

SkyView image of V842 Cen (see important notes).

Position
  • Equatorial: 14h35m52.54s, -57d37m35.5s (Gaia)
  • Galactic: l=316.57, b=+2.45
Finding Chart:
Brigntness:
Optical; G=16.3 (Gaia); X-rays: 3.5x10-13 ergs cm-2s-1 (4XMM-DR11)
IP Credential:
*** (Probable): The appearance of the coherent 56.825 s signal >20 years after the nova outburst argues for an IP interpretation. Independent confirmation (direct or indirect, such as a spectroscopic determination of the orbital period) would raise the confidence level.
Periods:
  • Orbital: 0.164 d = 3.94 hr = 14200 s
  • Spin ?: 0.0006577 d = 0.94708 min = 56.825 s
  • Others: 56.598 and 57.054 s.
Inclination:
Probably low?
Distance:
1325 (1429-1425) pc (Gaia EDR3; parallax: 0.731+/-0.045 mas)
