Excursion
We will make a day trip to the home of the First President of the United States, George Washington. According to the website, "Mount Vernon is an iconic American landmark - an enduring reminder of the life and legacy of the Father of Our Country. Once a vibrant plantation in the 18th century, the estate is now one of the nation's most visited historic sites. Combining an authentically interpreted 18th-century home, lush gardens and grounds, intriguing museum galleries, immersive programs, and first-rate dining and shopping, Mount Vernon is an incomparable national treasure." The site also includes the tombs of Martha and George Washington, slave burial grounds, a pioneer farm, and a whiskey distillery.
Subsequent to visiting the Mt. Vernon Estate, we will repare to the nearby Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant for the opportunity to sample a quantity of locally crafted beer, wine and whiskey. There is also food, if you like that sort of thing.
