What was the telescope's real purpose?
What caused it to be broken?
What are the upgrades for it?
Why is NASA cool?

Purpose: To explore the universe and all its phenomena. To find out more about its origins.

Broken: There was a spherical aberration in Hubble's primary mirror. An error that was a tiny fraction of a percent, but enough to disrupt Hubble's precise science.

Upgrades: There have been several. Better science instruments, replacement parts... Go to: timeline

Cool: Along with trying to make a better life for man through technology, NASA works to makes man's dreams reality .

Hi Julie,

Hubble is not pointed towards earth so it cannot take images of your property. There are other satellites that do take images of earth. Check These NASA web sites for images.

If Hubble were pointed at the moon (I realize that it never will be due to the high luminence) could it see any man made objects?

I was wondering what kind of thrusters are used to control the orientation, the pitch and the axis,of the telescope in order to point the telescope to desired area of the univese for the observation. If it is chemical propulsion or Pulsed Plasma Thruster is it possible to use one of those so called Spacedrives (eg:Gyrostat Propulsion System) listed in the World Spacedrives Archives.

Hubble does not use thrusters for detailed information on Hubble's pointing system check out The Hubble Project Site

I work in a planetarium that runs souly off of slides, and we have a show about the hubble telescope that is already outdated (1999) and will become more outdated after this launch I am hoping to put together a brief slide show after the planetarum show which would bring it back up to date. Were could I get slides from

What is the limiting factor affecting Hubble's lifetime? ie. the servicing missions upgrade a lot but what is it that will cause the end of Hubble's useful life?

Check Preston Burch's video clips (Hubble Program Manager) for info on this topic.

I've been reading up on the history of the servicing missons in order to be able to follow the timeline better of what improvements and repairs have been made. Is there an archive of media guides or press kits from the SM1 and SM2 missions somewhere that can be viewed or downloaded?

You can download the media guide and fact sheets for SM3A the following urls:
http://sm3a.gsfc.nasa.gov/media_guide.html
http://sm3a.gsfc.nasa.gov/hst_fact_sheet.html
I know SM1 is not available in electronic format and I will have to check on SM2.
