When they shut down the power how long will it be turned off for. What I really would like to know is when will we find out that the new power systems are working as advertised. Also was hubble designed to have all its power turned off in space.

It is expected to be about 4-6 hours turned off. Our thermal preparations allow for an 8 hour duration in case the EVA runs long. Power is restored after the EVA ends.

About your second question, I am unsure of what you mean. If you ask if it is possible to power-down HST completely when it is away from the Shuttle, the answer is no. We are powering down by disconnecting the batteries and Shuttle power.
