The GALEX Angle Calculator computes the angle between a celestial position and one of a list of alternative “Reference Bodies”, as a function of time. “Reference Bodies” include bright solar system objects and other directions that are meaningful for observation planning, and each of which must be avoided by a specified minimum angle during GALEX observations (see below).
1"Velocity" is the instantaneous direction of orbital motion of GALEX, also known as the "ram" direction. The results are displayed for the (GMT) time of smallest separation between the boresite and the Reference Body during each eclipse. Please be patient after clicking "Request Data," as it may take a minute to calculate the angles. Violations (=Reference Body within minimum avoidance angle) are shown red-on-yellow in the results page. |
