Cycle 6 Information

GALEX Project at Caltech

The GALEX Exposure Simulator accepts as input target parameters (e.g. galaxy type, stellar effective temperature, apparent magnitude/band), date, and exposure time. As output it produces a complete GALEX instrument response (source and background counts, and S/N, for imaging; and a spectrum).

Most parameters required for the Simulator are fairly self-evident when applied to the class of Object (star, galaxy, quasar) they are relevant to. Note that the default “Area subtended by object” is approximately the GALEX PSF.

We recommend the NEW Exposure Time Calculator/Simulator/ etc - same results, more options

(Updated 15 June 2007)
