Cycle 4 Information

For Cycle 4, there are explicit exclusion regions around the Magellanic cloude: 3.75 degrees around the LMC and 2.0 degrees around the SMC. Observations within these circles will not be accepted, even if they pass the brightness checker tool.

The target visibility tool will (any day now) indicate these zones of avoidance as a large double-crosshatched circle. Crosshatched 1.2 degree circles will also indicate regions where GALEX has already attempted observations which resulted in detector overcount shutdowns. Examples of the target observability output with these new features are shown here for an LMC example and for a SMC example.
