SHORT BIO:
Mr. Newman has spent most of his computing career
involved with system administration tasks in UNIX/Linux environments within Code 660.
Mr. Newman currently works as a computer engineer for the
Office of Scientific Computing
which is part of the Astrophysics Science Division(ASD)
within the Sciences and Exploration Directorate at
Goddard Space Flight Center. His primary responsibility as
computer engineer is to guide the IT direction
for the High Energy
Astrophysics Science Archival Research Center(HEASARC)
by maintaining and planning IT computing, storage and network infrastructures
to support the archival needs of past, present and future high-energy missions.
The HEASARC facility serves approximately 90 TB of data to the astrophysics
community.
Mr. Newman also serves ASD as the Computer Security Official(CSO) for 660. This role is tasked to ensure that required IT security regulations and best practices are followed with the ASD organization. In addition to his HEASARC and CSO responsibilities, Mr. Newman serves as alternate technical representative(ATR) to the SESDA Systems task for the division by monitoring the system management and networking performed by the ASD system adminstrator team.
