Visit 41 was very successful (two orbit subset of the CCD GXXXM spectra). The exposure levels are good and very close in general to predicted from recent visits. Indeed, I see little evidence of decline of the stellar spectrum and the Weigelt blobs, but keep in mind that my quick look is focused mostly on the brightest lines in each spectral segment and keeping the exposure DN's in proper range. We have NO saturated lines and the brightest lines are typically in the proper density range. Visit 32 is May 19; Visit 33 is May 17, but Visit 31 is not yet scheduled and appears headed for around May 26, 27 according to email from Beth Perriello this morning. While I would like to have the E140M and E230M very close to the two visits, we have to accommodate to HST scheduling. This is an important last view of the spectrum before the X-Ray decline/crash/etc begins if we have the period predicted correctly (see Corcoran's daily updates on the RXTE flux; it looks like we have one more peak before the crash! and that all is close to schedule). Visits 51 and 52 will be a CVZ pair of visits completely covering the spectrum from 1175 to 10300A. The window is early June (2-8) and should be on the declining shoulder of the X-Ray drop. Visits 61-63 will be the same observations in late June (18-24) at the half-way point, if we have predicted the period correctly. Then we are on to Cycle 12 observations (9973) with visits 71-73 June 28-July 13 and WFPC2 in early July with ACS/HRI closely coupled. I will be in Lund, Sweden beginning May 18-June 8, but monitoring the data and planning, along with quick look evaluation. I have APT finely tuned for the Cycle 12 observations and will be able to respond to planning changes from there. 9420: Remaining visit plans: Just before: Visit 31: A 1175-2350 with E140M, E230M(1978) 2 MAY25-31 2003 Visit 32: A, D(C) 1640-10300 with GXXXM settings 4 MAY25-31 2003 Visit 33: A, D(C) 1640-10300 with GXXXM settings, cont. 3 MAY25-31 2003 Begin the Minimum: Predicted X-Ray drop: Visit 51: A 1175-2350 with E140M, E230M(1978) 2 CVZ JUN 3-8 2003 D Fe II 2507, 9 monitoring with E230H (2563) Visit 52: A, D 1640-10300 with GXXXM settings 4 CVZ JUN 3-8 2003 Just after the drop: 61: A 1175-2350 with E140M, E230M(1978) 3 JUN18-24 2003 D Fe II 2507, 9 monitoring with E230H (2563) Visit 62: A, D 1640-10300 with GXXXM settings 4 JUN18-24 2003 Visit 63: A, D(C) 1640-10300 with GXXXM settings, cont. 3 JUN18-24 2003 9973: Deep into the Minimum: Visit 71: A 1175-2350 with E140M, E230M(1978) 2 JUN28-JUL13 2003 D Fe II 2507, 9 monitoring with E230H (2563) Visit 72: A 1640-10300 with GXXXM settings 3 JUL1-10 2003 Visit 3A: ACS/HRC imagery during minimum 1 JUN13-25 2003 Visit 2W: WFPC2 imagery during minimum 1 JUL-AUG 2002 Late into the Minimum: Visit 4A: ACS/HRC imagery during minimum 1 JUL20-AUG11 2003 Visit 81: A 1175-2350 with E140M, E230M(1978) 5 CVZ JUL27-AUG6 2003 D Fe II 2507, 9 monitoring with E230H (2563) Visit 82: A, D 1640-10300 with GXXXM settings 4 CVZ JUL28-AUG7 2003 Visit 83: A 1640-10300 with SELECTED GXXXM settings 2 AUG12-AUG21 2003 Does it start to recover?
