A finding chart for V381 Vel

SkyView image of V381 Vel (see important notes).

Position
  • Equatorial: 10h16m59.02s, -41d03m44.5s (Gaia)
  • Galactic: l=274.06, b=+12.99
Finding Chart:
Greiner & Schwarz (1998)
Brigntness:
Optical: G=17.6 (Gaia); X-rays: 3.1 x 10-13 ergs cm-2s-1 (4XMM-DR11)
IP Credential:
* (Doubtful): Although Greiner & Schwarz preferred 134 min period, they themselves note that "common periods of 123, 134, and 149 min are possible" due to poor sampling. Given the strong pereference for the 122.3 min period by Vennes, Ferrario & Wickramasinghe, and the fact that 134 min is a 1 day alias of this, it's almost certainly a true polar with a 122.3 min period.
Periods:
  • Orbital: 0.08493 d = 2.038 hr = 7338 s, from optical spectroscopy. (?)
  • Spin: 0.08493 d = 122.3 min = 7338 s, from optical spectroscopy. (?)
  • Others: 134 min (1 day alias of 122.3 min period) was weakly preferred by Greiner & Schwarz.
Inclination:
Distance:
490.9 (474.7-512.5) pc (Gaia EDR3; parallax: 2.029+/-0.072 mas)
