Commentary

Craig Markwardt writes:

This is a report on the "regular" scans of the galactic bulge, day
1902.  There are no new bright sources, but I can mention some
transient activity:

 * XTE J1819-254 has returned to its original high of about 280 ct/s
   (~28 mCrab).
 * XTE J1710-281, the new eclipser, has dropped again to ~10 ct/s, as
   has XTE J1744-36.
 * KS 1731, which I reported to have declined to its quiescent level
   in the previous scan (600 ct/s = 60 mCrab), has increased to 800 ct/s
   (~80 mCrab).
 * The Rapid Burster, MXB 1730-33, has declined from almost 3 Crab to
   500-600 mCrab.
 * In the previous scan (day 1899) there was a new source detected at
   RA = 266.035 +/- 0.05; DEC = -23.122 +/- 0.05; FLUX about 30-40
   ct/s (3-4 mCrab).  Reflecting back, it was present since day
   1892 (March 8).  In today's scan the flux was seen to decrease
   slightly, indicating the source may have already peaked.
 * Another source is present in this scan near RA=260, DEC=-31.2 at a
   flux of about 1-2 mCrab.  It is new this time.
 * The source in the galactic center, has begun to decrease.  Is this
   SAX 1747?

All fluxes 2-10 keV, count rates scaled to 5 PCUs.
